Glam on the Go-Almay Oil Free Makeup Eraser Sticks

This winter weather is doing some serious damage to my eye makeup. The strong winds make my eyes tear and the dry air has me constantly rubbing. The end result? Streaks and smudges from my liner and mascara. My saving grace is Almay makeup eraser sticks. Built like a Q-Tip, one snap at the end and remover moistens the tip. A quick sweep gets rid of any debris and it's back to looking fresh and bright (and not raccoon-like!)

I also love using this when creating a smokey eye or using liquid liner. It erases my mistakes without undoing the rest of my makeup.

Beating the Winter Blues

Winter can be really rough. The drop in temperatures can wreck havoc on one's hair and skin, and it may seem like beauty is dead until spring. I've rounded up my favorite hair and skin products to combat this could-be-better-weather.

For hands, I love Deborah Lippman's "Rich Girl" hand cream {1}. It's SPF 25 and has ultra nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, avocado, and jojoba oils. For my feet, I'm a firm believer that nothing can beat a generous coat of Vaseline {2} wrapped in a pair of cozy socks. Sleep in them and you'll wake up with soft, smooth heels. Another body staple is Kiehl's Creme de Corps {6}. The texture is rich and luxurious, and although pricey, it's the best body cream I've ever tried.

Another drugstore favorite is St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Facial Moisturizer {4}. It hydrates skin like no other and packs a punch with the collagen and elastin proteins.

My lips tend to take the hardest beating during the colder months. I love fresh Sugar Lip Polish {3} for this reason. For starters, it smells delicious. The formula incorporates real brown sugar granules to gently exfoliate the flakes. It also moisturizes lips with grapeseed oil and shea butter.

Last but certainly not least is winter hair. Between the static cling from hats and the split ends from the artificial indoor heat, your hair deserves some TLC. Enter Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask {5}. This treatment is rich and a bit heavy so this works best if used every two weeks or once a month. It penetrates the strands and leaves them moisturized, smooth, and shiny.

Recipe Box: Cheese Bites

I'm attending a much-needed girls night in this Saturday and am bringing one of my favorite (and easy!) party snacks. My friend, Ali, gave me the recipe after bringing them over one night. I was immediately hooked. These cheese bites taste delicious and nobody can get over the simple ingredients and speedy prep time.

Cheese Bites

Ingredients:
1 French baguette
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup minced onion

Directions:
Cut baguette into rounds. Toast rounds of bread on one side and let cool. Mix together mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, and minced onion and spread onto the untoasted side of the bread rounds. Broil until bubbly and brown. Serve hot.

Glam on the Go-Garnier Fructis Dry Shampoo

I popped into CVS yesterday to grab a few essentials when I spied my new favorite thing. I've been obsessed with dry shampoo for years, and I can honestly say that I've tried them all. Powders, sprays, you name it, I've tried it. I stumbled upon Garnier's new dry shampoo which promised to "refresh" my hair and "extend" the volume. As a fine haired gal, I decided that it sounded promising.

Fast forward to this morning. I overslept and needed to race out the door. I shook it up and was pleasantly surprised by the warm, fruity scent. A few quick spritzes on my roots, then an all-over spray, a tousle of my head, and I was good to go.

Outfit of the Day-Date Night Look

Last night Mike and I went to dinner at one of our favorite places, Spice Market. I kept the look streamlined and then added a bit of sparkle.

Manicure Monday-Essie Nail Strips

There's nothing I enjoy more than going to my favorite salon and getting a fabulous mani. That being said, my schedule doesn't always allow for me to luxuriate with my hands in a paraffin mask. Today is one of those days. My boyfriend surprised me with dinner reservations at one of our favorite places and I'm going to have to book it home to be ready in time.

Problem solved with Essie Sleek Stick nail stickers. I chose Oh My Gold! a metallic polka dot print. Application was a cinch! You start with clean nails, apply the right sized polish sticker, fold the excess over the nail tip, and file any leftover strip away. Oh, and there's no dry time. Perfection!

Cracking Dress Codes

While sitting at home on this very snowy day, I had a lot of time to think. With a slew of impending events,  I realized that dress codes aren't always clear. For example, what does "festive" mean? "Business casual?" I've decided to break it down  for you.

Generally speaking, a casual dress code means anything goes. Jeans are appropriate for both men and women, along with shorts, sundresses etc. if it's a summer event (think barbeques, picnics, anything outdoors). If you receive an invitation to an event that requests dressy casual or smart casual leave your faded blues in your drawer. For men, these events require khakis or dress pants, even a sports coat. Women don't have to wear a dress (although it's generally an easier option), but keep the pants tailored and wear an appropriate blouse.

Although usually reserved for the winter holiday season, festive attire means dressy casual with that extra bit of oomph. If you're wearing a black pencil skirt and basic shell, top it with a sequined cardigan for some sparkle. Festive does not mean reindeer sweater or Christmas light earrings.

Semi-formal means the same as cocktail attire. For both events, men will want to wear dark dress pants or slacks paired with a button down, collared shirt and a sports coat or a dark suit. A tie isn't necessary, but can be worn if so desired. For women, a short yet sophisticated dress will do the trick, although avoid plunging necklines or anything too dramatic.

Creative black tie is probably something that many of us will never have to worry about, although it is my personal favorite. In this situation, a man can play up a regular tuxedo by using a colored shirt, or opt to go without a tie. A woman can wear dressy separates i.e. a full, floor-length skirt with a crisp, button down top. Your goal is to look elegant and polished, but to incorporate your own point of view.

If you're going to a black tie optional event, you're not obligated to be fully formal, but it's a nice way of nudging you in that direction without being forward. Men aren't required to wear a tux, but should wear a dark suit and tie if they choose not to. Woman should refrain from wearing short hemlines, and opt instead for a long gown (perhaps without heavy embellishment).

A black tie event calls for men in tuxedos and women in long, evening gowns. End of story. There is no wiggle room.

Last, but certainly not least, is the white tie fete. This is the epitome of formality, so men will be wearing a full tuxedo with white shirt, vest, and tie. Women are to wear long evening gowns, but this time, the sky is the limit. Bedazzle yourself like hell and work it like you're the only one in the room.
